Frequently Asked Questions

What are the fees to participate in Crush Academy?
Unfortunately there is no set fee for all age groups or different programs. Fees vary by age group as travel team fees and costs per team vary. As a general rule, younger age group players have lower fees than older age groups. Although fees vary from year to year, Crush always remains competitive in terms of overall cost with all competitive clubs on Oahu. With the services and products offered we consistently hear from our families that we are the best value available and we strive to keep that title going forward. The fees for CSL participation are updated in the Crush Store regularly.

What is included in the travel team fees (not applicable to CSL players)?
Team fees consist of all training, registration, and league fees for the year. It also includes one dry-fit practice shirt, game shorts, and game socks. The jerseys are returned and redistributed at least once per year. The fees do not include an annual HYSA and Oahu League registration fee of $58.10 that must be paid directly on the Affinity website. The process for this will be communicated once team fees are collected. The club fees also do not include anything team-related. For instance if the team decides to enter a tournament, that tournament fee is to be collected and paid for by the players participating on an ala carte basis. Some clubs collect fees throughout the year which can then add up very quickly. We try to keep this practice to a minimum to promote transparency.

What are the coaching philosophies on playing time for travel teams (not applicable to CSL players)?
If a player is rostered for a team game, that player will play in every half. That said, we do not encourage equal playing time as other leagues or clubs do. The general philosophy is that the best players play the most but everyone plays. Playing time is not directly dependent on coming to practice (we try to be flexible as a club since we know people are busy). We realize that some players are multi-sport athletes or have other extracurricular activities. Crush as a club encourages this as we have had many instances of players playing 3 high school sports and making practices whenever they are able. We recognize that players do not have to commit 100% to playing soccer in order to be good players though many players in Crush do fully commit to the game. Given all of these circumstances, we try to keep playing time simple with the best players playing the most so that we achieve a friendly level of competition amongst teammates. We do not pay attention to gender (if any girls on boy's teams) or age group (younger players playing up). No groups have "preference" over others. For example, a strong player may never be subbed out and another player may play only 5 minutes a half. That said, if the stronger player doesn't participate in Crush activities or other sports and the other player does consistently, it is possible for the 5 minute player to become the starter instead. Starting positions are never set for the year. Coaching staff are told to always play the best players the most while doing their best to get quality time on the field for all. Every game or practice is another opportunity for a player to win a starting role.
